Robert SYMONS

  Noted events in his life were:

• Birth. The family were in London (from Mt Edgecombe) attending a court case in connection with titled land when our grandfather was born (their 8^th child). He was born there on the 16^th of December 1853 at 25 Bromley Terrace Bromley in the district of "Bow and Bromley" in the county of Middlesex. Born within the sound of the bow bells, therefore born a cockney.

• 1820 Settlers. William Symons and family left Portsmouth on the 6^th of September 1857 on the "Lady Kennaway" and arrived in east London on the 23^rd of November 1857 my grandfather Robert was 3 (3 weeks short of his 4^th birthday. A 9^th baby had arrived.

Robert married Edith BROWN, daughter of Stephen BROWN and Susannah Catherine MILES, on 12 Feb 1902 in Vaalkranz, Cape. (Edith BROWN was born on 24 Jun 1877 in Vaalkranz, Cape and died in 1944.)

Robert next married Sarah Ann FIELD in Thomas River. (Sarah Ann FIELD died in 1900 in Birmingham and was buried in Kingwilliamstown, Cape.)
